Tali Shapiro
Tali Shapiro was the first known victim that Alcala persued. She was eight years old and walking down the road, then Alcala proceeded to luer the young girl into his hollywood apartment. A neighbor saw this, and became alarmed they notified the police. When the authorities arrived they knocked on Alcala's door. Upon no answer they forcibly entered the home. Tali Shapiro was lying on the ground, unconsoious and near death. She suffered near fatal injuries to the head, and was sexually abused as well. Alcala was long gone out the back of his apartement then. he fled to New York, but was discovered by a few students that he shadowed in photography class. They noticed his face on a wanted poster.
Alcala was then brought back to California to serve his time and go on trial for his crime. But the Shapiro family, who had relocated to Mexico, refused to resurface the pain on their little girl. So the charges were dropped to a simple abused and battery charge.
Years later Shapiro testified against Alcala at his hearing. She told the jury what he did to her and how it impacted her life. Alcala's simple response was "I am sorry for my despicable behavior." Alcala was sentenced to life without parol, or bond. Later three more murder charges would resurface, and he would receive the death peanalty.
